How Can Massage Therapy Help?

While chiropractic deals with the nervous system and nearby bones, massage helps alleviate issues related to the soft tissues of the body. Soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, fibrous tissues, fat, blood vessels and synovial membranes. If these connective and supportive structures are tight, they can restrict range of motion. Massage therapy is used to loosen soft tissue and increase mobility.

Use It Alone or With Chiropractic Care

Massage therapy can be used by itself or alongside chiropractic care. However, we highly recommend taking advantage of both therapies. Why? Here is an example:

Much of the time, massage therapy is relied on as a means to loosen muscles. Muscles are connected to bones. This means that if a bone is restricted, surrounding relaxed muscle naturally reverts to improper positioning. With the help of chiropractic care, bone mobility is restored— ultimately, allowing loose muscles to remain calm and the effects of the therapeutic massage to hold.

Alternately, massage therapy is often used before chiropractic care to prepare the body to be realigned. Patients often respond better to adjustments when their muscles are looser and their soft tissues are healthier.
